Loose Women star Katie Piper admitted to hospital for ‘unexpected medical procedure’

The presenter said she hopes to be back next weekend

Loose Women star Katie Piper has been hospitalised for a mystery operation, forcing her to pull out of her weekend ITV1 presenting commitments.

Katie was due to present Katie Piper’s Breakfast Show today (June 8) and tomorrow (June 9).

However, in a statement posted on Instagram, Katie shared that she’d been taken into hospital for an “unexpected medical procedure”.

Loose Women star Katie Piper pulls out of ITV show

Posting on Instagram, Katie shared: “Sadly I’m not going to be on my Breakfast Show this weekend as I’ve had to have an unexpected medical procedure.”

She then added: “All is well and I hope after some rest I’ll be back in the hot seat next weekend.”

In the caption of her post she thanked Charlotte Hawkins for “stepping in at the last minute”.

In a statement, Katie’s rep said: “Katie Piper won’t be presenting her breakfast show this weekend on ITV, either today or tomorrow. She’s just put a post on her Instagram but she had to have an unexpected medical procedure and with some rest she hopes to be back next weekend. Charlotte Hawkins kindly stood in at the last minute.”

Fans share fears

Katie was quickly inundated with get well messages from her friends and followers.

Charlotte Hawkins said: “Sending lots of love to you.” Carol Vorderman posted: “Take care wonderful lady. You come first. Telly is just telly. Sending huge love and respect.”

Andrea McLean posted: “Sorry to hear that Katie. I hope all is well soon.”

Others shared fears for the popular presenter. One said: “This is so heartbreaking! I hope you feel better soon, Katie.” “I hope that everything will be okay,” said another concerned fan. “Take good care of yourself,” said another.

Lasting impact of 2008 acid attack

Loose Women star Katie Piper has undergone numerous medical procedures and operations as a result of a targeted acid attack back in March 2008.

The star revealed she had been hospitalised in the run-up to Christmas. She shared her relief over having her eye temporarily stitched up.

Katie underwent the operation in a bid to save the sight in her eye.
