Laura Hamilton fighting rare condition that killed A Place in the Sun co-star’s sister

'My legs are covered in bruises'

Star of A Place in the Sun Laura Hamilton is currently battling the rare condition of immune thrombocytopenia, a disorder that often leads to bruising and bleeding.

Bleeding starts to occur from low levels of platelets, which are the cells that help blood clot.

Laura Hamilton opens up about her rare health condition

During an interview with the Daily Star in 2022, Laura said she has flare-ups “depending on what’s going on with my life and stress often brings it out”.

“It was really mad a year ago I was filming A Place In The Sun with a lovely couple in France – Mark and Janine – and I just stood there and I had an insect bite on my leg and I started scratching it,” she continued.

“I was like: ‘Oh, I shouldn’t have done that because I’m gonna have bruises on my leg from ITP.'”

It was at that moment that Laura learned that her co-star Mark’s sister had died from the same condition.

“He told me that really sadly his sister had died from ITP and he said it was really good how I was trying to raise awareness of it,” Laura – who reportedly has a new boyfriend – said.

“It’s one of them times where you think they could have been paired with anybody as a presenter and nobody knew about the ITP link.”

‘I’ll never let it stop me from doing the things I love!’

In an Instagram post shared last year, Laura revealed she had wrapped filming in the sun.

“What a great few days filming something new in the sun,” she wrote. However, she admitted that she was fighting her rare condition while living the dream.

“My legs are covered in bruises, but with ITP that is often the case and I’ll never let it stop me from doing the things I love!” she continued.

Fans took to the comments section to share their support.

“Thank you so much for speaking openly about ITP. I was diagnosed with ITP shortly after a certain vaccine,” one user wrote.

“So glad to hear that you don’t let ITP define you or stop you from enjoying life,” another person shared.

“Sorry to hear about your ITP but it’s great you don’t let it stop what you want to do,” a third remarked.
