Strictly star Greg Rutherford rushes son to hospital after accident: ‘Another head injury to leave another scar’

Get well soon Rex!

Strictly Come Dancing 2016 alumni Greg Rutherford shared on Instagram that his son Rex has suffered an accident leaving him with a head injury.

Describing the incident as adding “another” scar, the retired Olympian took to social media to share Rex’s bump. Snapping a selfie whilst in the hospital, Greg likened Rex’s antics to his own.

Rex’s head injury comes after Greg suffered his own nasty injury whilst rehearsing for Dancing On Ice.

The dad-of-three took to Instagram to share that Rex had suffered an injury. He could be seen posing alongside his son who sported a bloodied bandage on his forehead.

Greg penned alongside the photo: “Back to the hospital.” He went on to explain: “It would seem we have created my EXACT replica in Rexy.

“Another head injury to leave another scar. He’s got a few more to go to match me, but he’s doing his best to catch.”

Greg shares his three children with partner, Susie Verrill. The athlete has two sons, Milo and Rex and a daughter named Daphne.

Family life

Greg often keeps his 199K followers up to date with his family life via Instagram. He recently shared a father and son trip he enjoyed with Milo on social media.

Greg penned: “Now I’ve got my phone back, I can finally talk about what an incredible day we had on Saturday! I took Milo to Wembley for the first time to watch our team do what everyone thought was the impossible.

“We had the best time and were so looked after by @clubwembley. The seats, high fiving the players, the food. I don’t think much is going to top this! Amazing for @manchesterunited and a really special dad & son day.”

Greg Rutherford injuries

The long-jump champion suffered an extremely painful injury on the ice ahead of a performance on Dancing On Ice in February. Whilst rehearsing, he appeared to tear his abs on the blade of an ice skate.

He wrote to social media at the time: “Although I won’t be able to skate for maybe a couple of months. I intend on getting back on the ice and keeping it up. I really do love it.”

Greg also admitted his stomach was “not in a good way”. Despite his positivity, Greg did end up missing out on the final and had to undergo surgery.

Greg previously appeared on Alexis Conran & Friends, also during February, and chatted about how he was forced to retire from long-jump due to his injuries.

Greg said: “My body isn’t what it once was anyway. And I had to retire due to injuries anyway. So it’s very tough.”

Greg also described pushing himself to the limits. He said: “But the problem is things like this then take place and then you deal with it again, which is less than ideal.”

Due to suffering several ankle injuries, Greg retired in 2018. He is well-known for claiming a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics. He also won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2014 and 2016 European Athletics Championships and 2015 World Athletics Championships.
