King Charles sparks concern as he meets new Prime Minister Keir Starmer amid cancer treatment

The monarch asked the Labour leader to form a government

King Charles sparked concern after he met with new Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer earlier today (July 5).

After a landslide victory for the Labour Party, Rishi Sunak was ousted and Sir Keir went to meet the monarch where he was put in place as the country’s new Prime Minister.

However, in among the comments about Sir Keir’s previous calls to abolish the monarchy, some royal fans noted that they thought the monarch looked tired and slimmer than usual.

Charles is, of course, currently having treatment for an unspecified form of cancer.

Sir Keir Starmer meets King Charles

Posting on Instagram, the official Royal Family account shared a picture of the new PM shaking hands with the sovereign.

“The King received in Audience The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer MP today and requested him to form a new Administration. Sir Keir accepted His Majesty’s offer and was appointed Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury,” the post said.

‘He has been very sick’

And, away from the comments about the country’s new leadership, some shared concerns for King Charles’ health.

One said: “The King’s suit is ill fitting. Probably due to his recent poor health. I hope you build yourself back up Your Majesty and take great care. Good luck with the new Prime Minister and I hope it runs smoothly and seamlessly for yourself and your family. You try not to worry and concentrate on your recovery,” they urged.

“I have seen him look sharper but he has been very sick,” said another. “The King doesn’t look well!” said a third. “King looks frail,” another claimed. “The King must be exhausted. He’s been so busy and battling cancer,” said another.

“Aww the King doesn’t look well at all,” another speculated.

King Charles ‘looks fine considering he’s having chemo’

However, others had the monarch’s back. “Love King Charles, always has a smile for everyone.” “He looks fine considering he’s having chemo. Yes he’s lost weight but to be expected,” said another.

The monarch has been in Scotland this week for a series of engagements. He’s been joined by wife Camilla and son Prince William – and even met with an angry anti-monarchy mob.

Sir Keir’s meeting with the monarch

The Labour leader arrived at Buckingham Palace to have his first audience with the King as Prime Minister shortly before noon. Sir Keir and his wife, Lady Victoria, arrived at the North Centre Gate and were driven across the Forecourt, into the Quadrangle.

Sir Clive Alderton and Commander William Thornton greeted the couple before Sir Keir held a private audience with the King. There, the monarch asked him to form a government.

After he accepted, Keir’s wife Victoria was then brought in to meet the King towards the end of the meeting.
