Dr Michael Mosley ‘wasn’t feeling very well’ before leaving beach alone as police handed ‘first solid lead’

He was last seen on Wednesday after leaving his wife and friends on the beach

Dr Michael Mosley told wife Dr Clare Bailey he felt unwell as he headed off on a solo hike back to their holiday home, it’s been reported.

The This Morning doctor was last seen on Wednesday (June 5) afternoon. He left wife Clare and their two friends on the beach. Dr Mosley then headed along a coastal path back to Symi Town.

However, six hours later, Dr Mosley hadn’t made it home, and wife Clare raised the alarm. An extensive search and rescue operation is currently underway on the Greek island.

Dr Michael Mosley latest: ‘He was not feeling very well’

However, last night (June 7), Greek journalist Ionna Niaoti claimed in an interview with Talk TV that the TV doctor had told his wife that he “was not feeling very well” and “wanted to return home”.

Ionna alleged: “It is understood that about 1.30pm local time, he said he was not feeling very well and he wanted to return home. So he went to a coastal path reaching the closest the village of Pedi, and this was the last time somebody saw him in Pedi.”

CCTV images showed him in Pedi at 1.52pm. He was seen holding an umbrella to shade himself from the sun. Further footage not released to the media reportedly shows Dr Mosley walking up a treacherous mountainous path from the town at about 2pm.

Wrong turn

Greek police are now working on the assumption that the 67-year-old diet guru took a wrong turn as he walked back to his friends’ home.

Later on, after another possible sighting, officers turned their attentions to a mountainous strip of land between the port of Pedi and the holiday home he was staying at.

A police official said: “It is the first solid lead we have and the entire weight of the search is now shifting to that area. He probably lost his way and ended up in this windy, uncharted path that links the two regions of Pedi and Symi town, winding through a craggy mountain.’

Mayor Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas added: “I very much doubt there is a criminal aspect in this case. At least as far the local community is concerned. I very much doubt that any of the inhabitants of the island has acted in that way.”

The mayor added: “I do believe however, the elder man walking on his own without a phone in an unknown island and 35C of heat could lead to many conclusions. He could have had unknown health issues triggered by the heat. He could’ve wandered through unknown paths and had an accident. Had he followed the right path I believe that everything would have been okay.”
