Eamonn Holmes defended by fans as he comes under fire for first social media post since Ruth Langsford split announcement

TV's golden couple announced their intention to divorce on Saturday

Eamonn Holmes has made a return to social media for the first time since it was announced he and wife Ruth Langsford are set to divorce after 14 years of marriage.

TV’s golden couple revealed the news via a spokesperson yesterday, but they are yet to personally address fans via social media. Eamonn did, however, post on Instagram yesterday after Manchester United won the FA Cup.

Unfortunately the post attracted some nasty comments and his fans rushed to defend him over it.

Eamonn Holmes returns to social media

On Saturday May 25, hours after confirming his split with Ruth, Eamonn posted on Instagram. Manchester United had just beaten Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup Final.

Avid Manchester United fan Eamonn, shared a portrait of him and former manager Sir Alex Ferguson. He captioned the image: “My God, what a Cup Final, what a result! #MUFC European football next season too. The Magic of The Cup. Congratulations to the whole squad.”

However many fans were not impressed with his post and took the opportunity to question him over his relationship. Some expressed their sadness at the split news, while others wished Eamonn well.

However one comment in particular angered some fans when a follower wrote: “Awwww poor Ruth, what did you do?”

Eamonn defenders immediately hit back to defend the GB News presenter.

“On what planet do you think it is ok to write this on someone’s post. You don’t know them and this is a disgusting thing to write! Grow up,” said one.

Another added: “Their private life is nothing to do with us, what makes you think you’re so entitled? The post is about the football, let’s keep it at that.”

“Eamon posted a football photo, why has no one got respect and NOT bought his personal life on this feed. Disgraceful!” commented a third.

A fourth agreed: “Read the room people. This post bears no weight on his personal life…it’s about sport. Let’s keep it on topic!”

“Ffs this post/photo is about football!! People need to stop bringing up his personal life and mind your own [bleep] business! Its nothing to do with anyone else!!!!!” raged one more.

The former This Morning presenters were plagued by split rumours in recent months. It comes after they hadn’t been pictured together for a while. Eamonn also shared pictures from his granddaughter’s christening and Ruth didn’t appear to be seen.

“Where was poor Ruth?” questioned one.

Caring for Eamonn

Eamonn’s battle with chronic pain has blighted their lives in recent years. He has previously had operations on his back to help with bulging discs. He then faced a setback when he fell and broke his shoulder last year and has recently been pictured in a wheelchair.

Earlier this week Ruth said that the couple are facing up to the fact that he may “never be 100% right”.

Speaking to Woman’s Weekly, Ruth shared: “I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope. He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right.

“With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it isn’t always easy. It’s testing but we manage as a family.”

Ruth added: “I look at Eamonn, who’s had his health and back problems, and it makes you realise how important your health is.”
